Trade with malaysia: Pakistan’s exports on an uptick

Pakistan’s exports to Malaysia have also increased by 70% to touch $253 million in 2011, says Masood Khalid.

ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan’s exports to Malaysia are growing steadily and are expected to cross $280 million by the end of this year on the back of a growing demand for food products in the Malaysian market, including rice, fruits and vegetables.

“Currently, bilateral trade between Pakistan and Malaysia has gone up by 13% to hit $2.8 billion in 2011, while Pakistan’s exports to Malaysia have also increased by 70%  to touch $253 million in 2011,” Masood Khalid, the outgoing High Commissioner of Pakistan to Malaysia, said at a farewell reception organised for him by the Malaysia-Pakistani Business Council in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The high commissioner and Malaysia-Pakistani Business Council Chairman Mohamad Salim Fateh Din agreed that industries could be further developed utilising skilled and semi-skilled labour from Pakistan in assisting Malaysia achieve its Vision 2020 objectives.
