Planting creativity: Prizes handed out at Winter Flower Show

VC urges students to learn about latest trends.

A two-day Winter Flower Show ended at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) on Tuesday.


Participants were given prizes in various categories. They were judged for aesthetics, variety, number of flowers managed in a single display and quality. Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan was the chief guest.

The show was organised by the UAF Institute of Horticultural Sciences. Students from the UAF, Lab Schools, Ayub Agriculture Research Institute (ARRI), Nuclear Institute for Agriculture and Biology (NIAB) and National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE) participated in the show.

Chrysanthemums were seen in most of the displays.

Later, addressing the students, the VC said that floriculture and landscaping was an emerging business in the world.

He urged the students to increase their focus on training and to equip themselves with the latest trends in the business.



The winners


Nuclear Institute for Agriculture and Biology students took the top slot, while students from the Ayub Agriculture Research Institute came second.

The two schools also took top slots in an autumn flowers, indoor plants, cactus and succulents show.

In the double chrysanthemum show, Sitara Chemicals won the first prize.

They had used the maximum variety of flowers in a 5x10 area.



The amateurs and individual basket decoration competitions were won by Waleed, Liaba Matloob, Muhammad Shoaib Shah and Kaneez Fatima. The 24 potted plants of chrysanthemum competition was won by Ahmad, Asad, Aiman Zehra, Mehak, Ayesha Shahid and Ayesha Khalid.

Rashid Iqbal, Kanza Syed, and Waleed won the competition for presenting fresh flowers to reflect spiritualism and tolerance.

The hanging arrangements competition was won by Razia Irshad, Syed Inamaullah, Saman Chughtai, Mehwish Ikram, Shiza, and Kanza Syed.

The best nursery display away went to Waleed. Table display completion was won by JK Agriculture Farms, Inamullah and Ali Hasan, while the ground display completion was won by Farrukh, Shahbaz, Amjad Nawaz and Waleed.
