ISLAMABAD: UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie says that transparency is a must for the government, as the entire country trusts the government of Pakistan with flood relief and rebuilding efforts for flood victims.

While addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Jolie said that the floods were a huge disaster and that millions had been displaced as a result.

Speaking on the Afghan refugees, Jolie said that Pakistan has been hosting 1.7 million refugees and they have are being supported by the government of Pakistan and UNHCR, which is a unique example of generosity.

‘Pakistan has been very generous in hosting what continues to be the largest refugee population in the world for the last three decades. It is now the Pakistani people themselves who are in need of large scale assistance’ Jolie said.

‘It is clear this crisis is far from over, people have lost everything. Long after the cameras have gone, people will still be struggling to rebuild their lives’ she said.

Answering a question, she said she strongly opposed ‘Burn a Quran Day’ on September 11.

This was her fourth visit to Pakistan since becoming UNHCR's Goodwill Ambassador in 2001.
