SUKKUR: Seventy-five per cent of the breaches in Tori Bund have been repaired and workers are trying to wrap up their work before Eid.

According to officials, the breaches developed 25 days ago in Tori Bund and its supporting dykes.

A 2,700-foot-wide breach developed in the main Tori dyke while its supporting dykes, such as Old Ghouspur dyke had developed two breaches, one of which was 450 feet wide and the other 500 feet. Similarly, Haibat dyke developed a 300-foot-wide breach and Khair dyke a 350-foot-wide one.

The Frontier Works Organisa-tion took up the task of repairing the damage last week.

“So far we have completed 75 per cent of the work on the main dyke,” the organisation’s in-charge, Brigadier Amanat, told The Express Tribune.

One of the breaches in the Old Ghouspur dyke has been plugged, Amanat said.

A 1,700-foot-wide portion of the main Tori dyke has been repaired so far, while the remaining part will hopefully be completed before Eid, he added.

Once the main Tori Bund is repaired, we will be able to easily move heavy machinery towards its supporting dykes and plug them, he explained.

Guddu Barrage Super-intendent Engineer Farooq Ahmed Channa told The Express Tribune that the entire repair work on the dykes will be completed by Tuesday evening.
