Khyber Agency: After 40 years, tribesmen to elect own representative

Security official killed, another injured while defusing bomb in Bara.

BARA/JAMRUD:
After a span of 40 years, the Koki Khel tribesmen reached a consensus to nominate a candidate for the National Assembly from their own tribe.

Until recently, the constituency NA-45 was under the influence of neighbouring Bara tehsil, inhabited by majority Afridi tribes. Personal disputes did not leave any room for a collective understanding.

However, in a jirga on Sunday, Koki Khel tribal chief Malik Faizullah Jan said that they have prepared for the elections and a committee will be formed to nominate a candidate.

Faizullah added that tribesmen in Landikotal, Jamrud, Shalman, Malagori and other adjacent areas were deprived of basic necessities.

The electricity grid in Jamrud has been under much political conflict. “We have planned to work with mutual cooperation to provide for our people,” he said adding that they are in contact with other tribes in NA-45 of Khyber Agency.

IED kills security official

A security personnel was killed and another injured in a remote-controlled bomb explosion in Sheen Qamar area of Bara tehsil on Sunday.

A khasadar official said that they were patrolling the area when they spotted an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by the roadside, adding that they called for the security personnel to defuse the bomb.

While the personnel were defusing it, the bomb exploded killing Hashim Khan on the spot and injuring Zafar Ali severely. Ali was admitted in a hospital in Peshawar.
