Employment on quota: KPT workers demand jobs for children

Justice Faisal Arab issued notices to the respondents to file their replies.

KARACHI:
The Sindh High Court has issued notices to the secretary of Ports and Shipping Ministry, and chairperson and human resource general manger of the Karachi Port Trust (KPT), for allegedly denying jobs to the children of 270 retired employees on “son quota”. One of the petitioners, Abdul Hameed, said that they had served KPT for years and the organisation was legally bound to give jobs to their children after their retirement. “Earlier, the ‘son quota’ was suspended in the port but it has been restored by the prime minister and a notification to this effect was issued on February 28 this year,” the petitioners argued. After the initial hearing, Justice Faisal Arab issued notices to the respondents to file their replies through federal and provincial law officers.
