KARACHI: Eyewitnesses have identified a key suspect involved in the bomb blast near Imambargah Mustafa in Abbas Town on November 18. Two people were killed and over a dozen men, including two Rangers personnel, were injured when the bomb, planted on a motorcycle, went off.

The witnesses identified the suspect, Abdullah, as the Crime Investigation Department (CID) produced him in front of Malir’s fourth judicial magistrate, Naveed Asghar, on Tuesday.

One eyewitness told the court that Ataullah had parked a motorcycle near the imambargah, despite being told repeatedly not to, and then went away. The bomb went off after two minutes, the witness added.

The police had arrested the suspect and seized explosives from him during a raid in Mauripur. Ataullah reportedly confessed to his involvement in the blast during interrogation, and he was later remanded into police custody by an anti-terrorism court.

An FIR No. 703/12 was registered under sections 4/5 of the Explosive Substance Act and Section 7 of the Anti Terrorism Act against unidentified men at the Sachal police station. The case was later handed over to the CID. The court sent the suspect back into CID custody after Tuesday’s proceedings.
