SUKKUR:

Former Pakistan Peoples’ Party MPA and chief of the Bhutto clan’s supreme council, Ghulam Qadir Bhutto, has denied reports that rifts had emerged in the group or that Sardar Aamir Khan Bhutto had fell out of favour with most of its members.

At a press conference on Monday he said, “conspiracies are being hatched to spark differences among the Bhutto clan. But I would like to clear one thing: the group continues to show unwavering confidence in Sardar Aamir Khan Bhutto.”

He said that a couple of days ago, a story had appeared in an Urdu daily that said the government has sent MNA Mehreen to thaw the ice between Sardar Aamir Bhutto and the government. The sardar has been a fierce vocal critic of the current PPP government, often lashing out at it for its apathy towards the plight of the Bhutto clan.

“Mehreen Bhutto is the member of the clan. She can’t force her sardar to negotiate with the government,” said Ghulam Qadir. “Over the last four years, the government has kept pushing the clan against the wall. It has also ignored the contribution of the Bhutto clan to democracy in the country.” He went on to say that if the government wanted to mend ties, it would talk to the sardar directly and not through an intermediary.
