Murder of KMC worker: Police arrest four suspects

The employee was shot dead near Jail Chowrangi on Friday.

KARACHI: Police claimed to have detained four members of a banned organisation from Patel Para for their alleged involvement in recently killing a person within Ferozabad police remits. Amjad alias Anda was arrested when police raided the area on Sunday. Acting on the information Amjad reportedly provided them, the law enforcers later nabbed three of his accomplices in separate raids.

DSP Raja Mushtaq said that the suspects belonged to the outlawed Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan, and police were interrogating them for their alleged involvement in the murder of a Karachi Metropolitan Corporation employee, Nazar Abbasi Zaidi. The 46-year-old activist of the Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen was shot dead near Jail Chowrangi as he was taking his 13-year-old daughter to school on Friday. He was reportedly travelling in a Suzuki Cultus when he was intercepted by two bandits on a motorcycle, who opened fire at the car.

Zaidi died at the spot while his daughter was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) in a critical condition.

Meanwhile Akhtar Hussain, 25, son of Yaqoob, was found dead from Korangi No 6 within Awami Colony police limits on Sunday. His body was taken to JPMC for medico-legal formalities and later handed over to Edhi morgue. Police said that unidentified culprits had shot and killed him and then dumped the body at an abandoned location. No case was registered till the filing of this report.
