ISLAMABAD: The China Investment Corporation (CIC) was briefed on the investment opportunities in Pakistan, particularly the development of the Zulfikarabad city project in Sindh. “Investment in Zulfikarabad is an opportunity for the Chinese companies to have easier access to the Middle East and European markets,” said Sind Minister for Finance Syed Murad Ali Shah, while talking to visiting Chinese investors. A high-level CIC delegation, led by its President Gao Xiqing, is visiting Pakistan to explore investment opportunities in the country. Earlier, in his detailed briefing, Zulfikarabad Development Authority Managing Director Lieutenant General (retd) Iftikhar Shah said that the Sindh government was pursuing the project on the directives of President Asif Ali Zardari, to develop a modern city on about 1.3 million acres of state-owned land in Thatta. He said that Zulfikarabad will be developed as a special economic zone (SEZ), which will provide opportunities to foreign companies and become a regional hub of major trade and commercial activities, capitalising on opportunities of trade with the Middle East, Africa, Europe and other regions.
