
A three-day conference to mark the 25th anniversary of the Pakistan Society of Neurosurgeons will begin here from Friday.
Some 70 research papers by international and local experts will be presented at the National Neurosurgery Conference, said Dr Zafar Iqbal, who is in charge of neurosurgery at Allama Iqbal Medical College and Jinnah Hospital.
Dr Iqbal said that a workshop would be held at the AIMC anatomy department from 8am to 5pm, while the conference would start at 8pm at the Pearl Continental Hotel.
He said that the workshop and conference would cover innovative new neurosurgery techniques, such as a new method of operating on the brain through the nasal passage.
This technique, which is far less invasive than regular brain surgery via an opening in the skull, will soon be used in Pakistan, he said
Dr Iqbal said that leading neurosurgeons from the United States and other countries would give lectures at the conference. He said that the conference was a great learning opportunity for young doctors.
Jinnah Hospital Registrar Dr Kashif Sultan also attended the press conference.
