Expansion: District jail to have 3 barracks soon

The barracks will have a capacity to hold 500 prisoners.

MANDI BAHAUDDIN:
Three barracks would be set up at the Mandi Bahauddin district jail, Senior Superintendent Chaudhry Naveed Ashraf said on Wednesday. The barracks will have a capacity to hold 500 prisoners, he said. The district jail senior superintendent said that a 10-foot high boundary wall would also be constructed around the 70-kanal land to improve security. Construction work on the wall, he said, would begin in a month. He said an additional two-foot high barbed wire will be installed on the wall. Currently, he said, the jail had a capacity of 300 inmates, however, there were more than 650 at the moment. He said 125 of these were death row prisoners.
