LAHORE:

When it comes to weddings, picking out a honeymoon destination can be as stressful as picking out a wedding outfit. While Thailand, Maldives and Malaysia have become some of the most popular honeymoon spots — not only because of accessibility but also because they guarantee an adequate vacation for any budget — The Express Tribune brings to you some fun locations. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have an exorbitant budget, if you pick reasonably priced hotels, your holiday may not leave a massive dent in your pocket.

Russia

The classic Moscow of the monarch Romanovs, writer Leo Tolstoy, ballet impresario Sergei Diaghilev and cellist Mstislav Rostropovich are well-known around the world. There is a more ostentatiously hip and luxurious side to Moscow that can blow one’s mind away. It is not necessary to always venture to Paris or London for a honeymoon. With airfare that starts at Rs97,000, Russia is a fabulous option.

Mediterranean cruise

On the other hand, the Royal Caribbean Mediterranean Cruise, costing $2,000 for two persons for 14 days, is another fun and luxurious honeymoon option. While sailing from country to country, one can enjoy the best moments relaxing on sea and exploring a new city every day.

Philippines

If in the mood for a sandy beach location, Philippines could be a great option. With its seven islands, hotels, and cheaper food than many East Asian countries, places like Boracay, Subic Bay, Cebu, Tagatay are worth visiting. From active volcano tours to the sun-kissed, white sand beaches, Philippines has it all. Estimated airfare via Bangkok is Rs95,000.

Iceland

Every heard of Blue Lagoon? It’s not a cocktail you find at restaurants but the popular spa in Iceland! The beautiful hot springs set in the most picturesque place on earth can account for a very memorable and wonderful trip, which will blow your friends’ minds when you announce your trip to Akureyri, a town in Iceland. From fissure snorkeling to touring the Blue Lagoon, the Icelandic experience is worth the trip.  Via Europe, the airfare is approximately Rs130,000.

Tahiti

If you’re looking for white sand beaches and a relaxing getaway, Tahiti (Bora Bora) is a fabulous option for those with a higher budget. With clear blue waters and over the water villas, Tahiti is the perfect destination for you and your better half. Getting to the destination can be slightly tedious but there is always a bit of struggle to get the best there is. The routing turns out to be Lahore-Dubai-Auckland-Papeete with Rs270,000 per person as the estimated ticket price.

Brazil

If journeying out to South America, Brazil can be a fun option for your honeymoon too. Rio de Janeiro is the perfect coastal city constituting both city and beach life. With culture, art, music, food and a vibrant nightlife right at your doorstep, what more could a fun loving couple ask for? Approximate airfare via Dubai is Rs197,000.

India and Sri Lanka

Coming back to South Asia — for flights under Rs50,000 — India and Sri Lanka can be interesting options too. While visa can be a problem if you want to explore the heritage and culture of our ancestors in New Delhi and neighbouring areas, if planned in advance, India is a great option with the Taj Mahal, Delhi Gate and Goa among others as one of the most popular touring spots.

Kenya

For those looking for cheaper options yet wanting to make their honeymoon different and memorable, here is a sweet deal for animal lovers and explorers: the African safari. Flights to Kenya cost approximately Rs96,000 and the safari grounds can be an interesting playground for the new couple to explore their fears and inhibitions while enjoying the wildlife.

Chitral

While we all love traveling abroad, our own country has some picturesque locations. There’s no denying that the northern areas of Pakistan are as beautiful (if not more) than any European terrain, so we suggest you seek out Chitral for your honeymoon or make a stop at Skardu first and visit the Shangrila resort hotel for a nice honeymoon.
