Malakwal rally: Another contempt plea filed against President Zardari

Applicant says president cannot take part in political activities according to SC order.

Yet another contempt application against President Asif Ali Zardari has been moved before the Lahore High Court (LHC), on Saturday. This time, the application targets an address he delivered a few days ago at a political rally in Malakwal.

“The president cannot take part in political activities according to the Supreme Court’s order,” applicant Munir Ahmad maintained in his plea. Ahmad’s earlier contempt petition against President Zardari for holding political office despite earlier court orders is already pending before the LHC.

According to the applicant’s counsel Muhammad Azhar Siddique, the apex court’s verdict on Asghar Khan’s petition bars the president from taking part in political activities. He asserted that Zardari violated the court’s orders by speaking at a political gathering organised by the Pakistan Peoples Party and requested the court to initiate contempt proceedings in this regard.
