Powell hits 2nd ton but Test evenly poised

West Indies ahead by 215 going into final day against Bangladesh.

DHAKA:
Opener Kieran Powell smashed a century in both innings before Bangladesh captured late wickets to keep hopes of an unlikely result in the first Test in Dhaka yesterday.

The 22-year-old right-handed batsman scored 110 for his second century of the match to anchor his team to 244 for six at close on the fourth day, leading by 215 runs and setting up an intriguing fifth and final day. Powell, meanwhile, was delighted to have achieved the milestone.

“This was a perfect opportunity to do something like this,” said Powell. “I think we are still in a good position to try and get a win from here if we get into 300.”

Earlier, Bangladesh were dismissed for 556, taking a slender 29-run lead over the West Indies who had scored 527 for four in their first-innings.
