Runaway Afghan Couple: Court summons Afghan marriage registrar

Earlier, Rehman moved a family court in Abbottabad, claiming that Maryam is his wife.

A family court has issued notice to a marriage registrar in Afghanistan to assist the court in solving the conjugal controversy of an eloped Afghan couple.


Family Court Judge Kiran Shaukat issued notice to the registrar on Monday through the Afghan embassy, asking him to testify whether an Afghan woman, Maryam, had contracted marriage with Abdul Rehman in Afghanistan in 2006, prior to eloping and getting married to another Afghan national, Haiwad, in Abbottabad in May 2012.

Earlier, Rehman moved a family court in Abbottabad, claiming that Maryam is his wife. He asked the court to conducted DNA tests of his two alleged daughters to prove his claims.
