Whose Pakistan, Taliban’s Or Quaid’s: Altaf seeks early public referendum

Referendum idea sparked from a speech by Hussain after the assassination attempt on peace activist Malala Yousafzai.

KARACHI:
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has asked the party’s Coordination Committee to announce a date for its publicised referendum as soon as possible. The referendum idea sparked from a speech by Hussain after the assassination attempt on peace activist Malala Yousafzai. He had called on Pakistanis in his speech on October 14 to declare whether they wanted to live in a Pakistan run by the Taliban or the one that the Quaid-e-Azam had envisioned. In a statement issued by the MQM, Hussain said he was directing the Coordination Committee in Karachi and London to announce the public referendum before the country was embroiled in another disaster.
