The Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has postponed party elections for Islamabad, scheduled for November 2, till further notice, said a press release of PTI on Thursday.
Party sources said that the polls have been delayed owing to some technical faults in voter lists.
“There were complaints that some members had registered more than one vote in their name, which could have led to unfair results in the elections for the office bearers of the party,” an official of the PTI said.
The chairman of CEC had constituted a committee to look into the complaints regarding faults in the voter lists, he said.
After marathon meeting of CEC with party stakeholders, the commission found that some objections and complaints regarding mistakes in voter lists were factual and needed urgent correction to ensure transparent and fair party elections, he said.
The PTI statement said that the CEC will meet on November 5 to decide the next date for elections in Islamabad and remove all technical faults in the voter lists by then.
PTI would hold party elections at any cost to inculcate democratic values in the political culture, it said.
The election commissioner of PTI, Hamid Khan said the delay would not affect the party elections in other parts of the country.
“We are testing a new electronic voting system to remove all expected faults. The party elections will be held in Islamabad after the successful test run of this system,” he said.
Around 60,000 registered voters of PTI in the capital territory would elect office-bearers for the year 2012-13, Khan said. These voters would elect 13 office-bearers in each of the 36 union councils of Islamabad. These elected people would form the Electoral College to elect the tehsil, district and provincial office-bearers, Khan said. “There is no need to worry about the delay, because intra-party elections will be held in a transparent and fair manner and at any cost,” Khan affirmed.

Vote for PTI to build a new Pakistan. Pakistan Zindabad.
Every party should hold internal elections. Only then Pakistan can become democratic state in true sense.
please for god sake dont cheat us any more, SIR IK
Was just scrolling through the articles in tribune related to Imran, and could mostly see negative ones :)
All I`m worried about is that in case PTI does win the elections, they cant control their own party people which has no unity amongst themselves how will they run the country? They seem so disorganized and disoriented. This is why PPP and MQM does so well!
Ruling parties have thrown out enough money in media sections, so now you can see many current issues programmes, coloms, stories against Imran Khan and PTI. Media is trying to show that tsunami is finished. Tsunami is there and the people who had already decide to vote for PTI will never change their mind, i guess. PML-N media team is working hard to edge past PTI. I like Shahbaz Sharif but their other polticians are doing silly things, only Lahore is not Punjab, remember.
Maybe they need 90 days to fix it?
At least they are trying to keep it as honest and transparent as possible. That itself is worth appreciating.
@Ch. Allah Daad: PTI is having very few genuine voters as per you but PTI in not having ghost voters like PMLN.
@Ali Just single promise that Imran fulfilled! Quetta jalsa, Waziristan march, online assets and the promise of promise to win Worls cup.
There very few genuine voters in PTI. Most of them are under age too.
It is a democratic process PTI is going through. This is very healthy. Imran Khan should act as a consultant and not take control. He should not dictate and contorl the party rather grow self directed leaders out of his party. It is imperative that empowerement of other memebers will ensure that they are capable to server the Country,
IK , PTI crumbling under its own weight
There is a well known saying "A glitch in time saves nine..."
Is there any single political promise which IK or PTI fulfilled? Either they don't have knowledge about complexities of such issues or they are just incompetent. Whatever the reason, it is proved IK is master of U Turns and PTI is junk of incompetent trolls. It was in March when Ik promised to hold party elections within 3 months. But he didn't mentioned the year.
@Mazu: "Imran Khan is famous for U Turns."
While the U turns may look haphazard and silly, they have a system carefully designed on a spreadsheet, and that too Excel, no less. Each policy decision will take 9 U turns, each lasting for 90 days, the aim being to continue the drama till the national elections.
The so-called party election have been postponed for the 8th time, will be postponed once again, so that time remaining for the general elections can be safely spent.
Holding party elections is good but not wise to do so at this time when general elections are knocking at the door. Hold them after the general elections. Instead, nominate candidates for the Assembly seats after doing due diligence and let them work towards their and the party's victory in the general elections. I at least would advice against holding intra-party elections before the general elections.
They got wrong everything practical soo far. Imran Khan is famous for U Turns.
When one reads that the Finance Minister admits spending over 1 Trillion Rupees on the energy sector with ZERO results and then the Prime Minister using up Rs 20 billion in a few months and asking for more in the 'name of development for the people', it is easy to understand why people still look to Imran Khan's PTI, despite the glitches.
@Shahid: no it isn't. That is the perception Media is trying to spread. Don't be mislead by these biased lustful public opinion makers. Believe in Your Party. Trust IK.
What a comic yet telling drama...
Series of dramas - dharna for NATO supplies, declaring assets, party elections, youth party, peace march to Tank, tsunami protest for stopping drones, detention in America, party elections (again, by popular demand)... more to follow as elections draw near...
I am a die-hard PTI fan but Imran HAS to take control of things very soon!! The party is crumbling. :(
At least PTI has the courage to accept that they got something wrong!
