MULTAN: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Monday announced a Rs3 billion rehabilitation plan for the people in the flood-hit areas of south Punjab. The announcement came during a short visit to Rojhan in Rajanpur district, where he met some flood-affected families. The chief minister distributed sacrificial meat among the people. He also distributed gifts among the children. Sharif compared rehabilitation plan – called the Khadim-i-Aala Flood Relief Cards with the Benazir Income Support Programme. He said flood-affectees would be able to access the Khadim-i-Aala Flood Relief Cards easily. He said each card would have a Rs40,000 balance. The families receiving cards would be able to draw the money in two installments over three months. He said these cards would be given to the families after rehabilitation work on their houses was completed. He said he would live with flood victims till their houses were rebuilt. Free seeds will be given to farmers who had lost crops in the recent floods, he said.
