Trespass and robberies: 2 die 3 including robber, injured
Family, neighbours foil robbery attempt by raising alarm; robbers flee from back door.
GUJRANWALA/FAISALABAD:
Two people were killed and three others, including a robber, were injured during robberies on Sunday, police said.
In Faisalabad, a man was killed and two youths were injured while trying to catch eight robbers who had entered a house at dawn.
Police said the armed men had entered Amir Ali’s house in Chak 211-RB. They said one of the family members shouted for help. Some of the neighbours gathered in front of the house and some went in. The neighbours caught some of the robbers and started beating them. One of the robbers them fired several shots injuring Muhammad Maqsood, Ehsaan and Zahoor.
The robbers managed to flee with Rs100,000, a pump-action gun and more than 150 grams of gold jewellery.
The injured were taken to Allied Hospital, but Maqsood died on the way. Doctors treating the other two said they were now out of danger. A case was registered against the unidentified robbers at Khurarianwala olice station. Police said they were looking for suspects. Elsewhere, four armed men broke into the house of a fruit seller in Kuliyawala. Police said the robbers tied up the family and shut them up in room, while they looked around for gold jewellery and other valuables. They said the robbers took away 120 grams of gold jewellery and Rs300,000. However, when they were leaving, Feroze, the head of the family, started shouting for help. The robbers beat him up with clubs and pistols. They then fled away.
The family somehow untied themselves and took Feroze to Kanjwani Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The family told police the robbers had continued beating Feroze until he fainted. They said when others too started shouting, the robbers threatened to kill him. They said they did not have any apparent enemies. Superintendent of Police Tauseef Haider and Deputy Superintendent Khalid Mehmood Afzal have directed the Saddar SHO to constitute a team to arrest the culprits.
In Gujranwala, a robber accidently shot and injured his accomplice in Sabzi Mandi area while the two were fleeing. He, too, was injured when some residents caught him and beat him up. The two men were later taken to Civil Hospital in police custody. Police said they had robbed a shop in Kangniwala.
Also in Gujranwala, a family foiled a robbery attempt by raising alarm in Jalil Town.
Police said two armed men had entered Haji Saifullah’s house. They said the women of the house started shouting for help on seeing them. Some neighbours came to the house holding clubs and rods. Seeing the people, police said, the two men fled from the back door.
Following the incident, residents of the area gathered in front of Jalil Town police station and protested against police’s failure to stop such incidents. They demanded that the city police officer set up posts on major roads and in several residential areas.
