By-elections: President approves election tribunal for two constituencies
Any appeals against either the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers will be filed by November 2.
ISLAMABAD:
President Asif Ali Zardari has approved an election tribunal for the disposal of appeals against the returning officer’s decisions on by-election nomination papers for two constituencies. By-elections in PP-129 Sialkot-IX and PP-133 Narowal-II are scheduled for November 27.
The Election Commission of Pakistan has proposed the names of Lahore High Court judges Justice Nasir Saeed Sheikh, Justice Muhammad Anwaarul Haq and Justice Abdus Sattar Asghar for the tribunal, under provisions of the Representation of the People Act 1976, informed presidential spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar.
Their names were forwarded in a summary to the prime minister who subsequently advised the president to approve the nominations.
Any appeals against either the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers will be filed by November 2. By November 6, they are due to be disposed by the tribunal.
