Two petitioners were beaten up at the session court on Friday allegedly by some lawyers.
In Faisalabad, a petitioner was beaten up by his opponent’s lawyer at the district and sessions court on Friday following an argument between the two.
Police said Advocate Asim, counsel for defence in a case alleging fraud, got into an argument with the petitioner, Muhammad Tahir, a resident of Jhang Road, when the two left the courtroom after the hearing of their case. They said Advocate Asim followed Tahir and had an argument with him over a proof the later had presented in the court earlier on Friday.
Witnesses said the advocate accused the petitioner of introducing a false evidence. This led to an argument between the two in front of Additional District and Sessions Judge Amjad Ali Khan’s courtroom.
They said the advocate knocked the petitioner down. They said he continued hitting the petitioner in the face, who had fallen on the ground, until other litigants and court staff intervened. Some lawyers then took Advocate Asim away. The injured petitioner was given first aid on the spot.
Police said they had not received a complaint so far.
In Gujranwala, a petitioner was beaten up by some lawyers allegedly for refusing to withdraw a case before the Lahore High Court Bench.
Police said Shaukat Ali, a resident of Rahwali, had filed a petition against the Cantonment Board administration for illegally demolishing a shed in front of his shop.
The judge had given a verdict in the petitioner’s favour and directed the Cantonment Board to build the shed. He had also directed the district and sessions judge to implement the court order.
On Friday, when the petitioner visited the sessions court, lawyer for the respondent, Aashiq Aasi, allegedly threatened him and told him to withdraw the case.
When Shaukat Ali refused to do so, police said, the lawyer and his brother, Kashif Aasi, and some other lawyers then beat up Ali. Shaukat Ali was slightly injured and given first aid.
Talking to The Express Tribune, Advocate Aashiq Aasi said that Shaukat Ali had started the argument first and had abused him. He said he had only hit Shaukat Ali when he pushed him.
Police said they were waiting for someone to register a complaint so that investigation could begin.
