LAHORE:

A two-day training workshop for doctors serving in jails was launched by the Punjab AIDS Control Programme here on Wednesday.

Addressing the inaugural session of the workshop on Wednesday, Punjab AIDS Control Programme Project Director Dr Salman Shahid said that the workshop aims to train doctors to provide better healthcare for AIDS/HIV sufferers and to prevent the spread of the sexually-transmitted diseases among the prisons population. He briefed the participants on the status of the disease in the Punjab and the free treatment facilities being provided in government hospitals.

Prisons DIG Mubashar Malik said that prisoners needed more counselling regarding HIV/AIDS. He said that all doctors working in Punjab’s prisons would benefit from the workshop and so would their patients.
