Simple food, simple life and affability is key to avert heart diseases

Simple food, simple life and affability are the most important weapons to avert heart diseases while smoking, obesity, tension, and family history are the main causes of heart diseases, President PANAH Maj Gen Masood ur Rehman said while addressing a seminar ‘Heart Diseases and Warden Awareness’ under the aegis of City Traffic Police here at Police Lines .

The Chief City Traffic Police Officer Dr Mohammad Akhtar Abbas was the host of the seminar held here in collaboration with Pakistan National Heart Association (PANAH).A large number of Traffic police officers attended the Seminar.

Within one minute, heart pumps five litres blood across the whole body, he said adding that 20 percent heart attack victims die instantly. By using Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) the lives of at least 40 percent of that 20 percent could be saved. Keep check on the ballooning of your belly and neck size as it can increase heart attack risk 10 times.


A man of 40-45 years of age must arrange his complete checkup, he added. In Pakistan around 6 million people are the victims of heart diseases. A total of 15 million people are killed due to hear diseases.

A person within a period of every ten minutes becomes the victim of heart diseases. As many as 75 percent people die due to heart diseases. Chief Traffic Police Officer Dr Mohammad Akhtar Abbas addressing the participants said the wardens must know how to provide first aid to a heart attack victim.

Precious lives could be saved by wardens in case of an accident or in case of a heart attack to a passenger on road. Traffic Police would observe May 31 as anti smoking day in collaboration with PANAH, he said. A 14- minute documnetary was also shown to the audience – the part of an effort to acquaint wardens to cope with the emergency situation in case a person endures heart attack.
