KARACHI: The business community in Karachi remains extremely disturbed and may opt for a complete shutdown if the government does not take stringent measures to control the deteriorating law and order situation, business persons’ representative SM Muneer has warned. Speaking at a dinner reception, Muneer claimed that a meeting of trade and industry representatives had decided to observe a complete shutdown across the country for two days. However, the decision has been put off for the time being, and it has been decided that a nationwide convention of the business community be held in Lahore to outline a future course of action. He complained that much of the police force has been delegated to protocol duty for VIPs and demanded that the government recall  those police personnel assigned to such tasks.
