Bhimber police-mob clash: Inquiry report holds district administration responsible
Recommends holding judicial probe into the killing of an opposition party activist.
MIRPUR:
An inquiry report into a recent clash between police and a mob in Bhimber District, has held the district administration responsible for the incident, which claimed a life and injured a person. Those accused of perpetuating the unrest include former Deputy Commissioner Khawaja Muhammad Naeem and former Superintendent Police Muhammad Jamil, said official sources on Friday.
“The inquiry report submitted to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has held Bhimber District administration responsible for the unrest that led to the clash between the mob and the members of the law-enforcing agencies,” a source close to the inquiry commission told The Express Tribune. The unfortunate event took place in the district court areas right under the noses of the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police, he added.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bhimber Khawaja Muhammad Naeem and Superintendent of Police (SP) Jamil Ahmed were removed from their offices with orders to report to the AJK Service and General Administration Department in Muzaffarabad following the violent clash.
The AJK government had formed an inquiry commission headed by Mirpur Division DIG Tahir Mahmood Qureshi to ascertain the cause of the unrest in the district.
In his report, Qureshi recommended to hold a judicial probe to investigate the killing a PML-N activist Chadhury Abdul Hamid during the clash between an unruly mob of PML-N activists and supporters and the police on September 18.
The tension turned into a street agitation when the rival political groups belonging to the ruling PPP and the PML-N went daggers drawn against each other after a minor clash between two women while grazing cattle in the fields.
