MIRANSHAH/ DI KHAN:

Six labourers of the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) were kidnapped from Shakai tehsil, South Waziristan Agency on Tuesday, while three labourers of the FWO were recovered 72 hours after they were abducted in the adjacent North Waziristan Agency, officials said.

The incident took place at Inzar village, located 45 kilometres north of Wana.

An official of the political administration confirmed the kidnappings, adding that the men were constructing the Wana-Shakai Road and were living around the area. “They were residing in tents when armed men kidnapped them at gunpoint and shifted them to an unknown location,” an official told The Express Tribune.

The kidnapped men belonged to Ahmedzai Wazir and Marwat tribes. They were identified as Nawaz Khan, Kabal Khan, Ghulam Khan, Aslam Khan, Lal Muhammad and Rauf.

The official said that three out of nine men resisted the kidnappers and managed to escape. No group has claimed responsibility for the abduction so far.

Meanwhile, three workers of the FWO kidnapped by unidentified men on Highway Road in Ghulam Khan Tehsil of North Waziristan Agency on Sunday were recovered by officials of the political administration.

They were travelling on an oil tanker when they were kidnapped.

Political Agent Siraj Ahmad Khan had ordered to block all entry and exit routes of the agency, while issuing a notice to the tribes in the area to recover the men immediately.

Khan accompanied by tribal elders and clerics told journalists that they had recovered Azhar, Fayaz and Haider Shah within 72 hours and handed them over to security forces. He further said that no one would be allowed to disturb the peace in the area, adding that locals should desist from providing shelter to any suspects.

On September 3, a vehicle of the FWO was targeted when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) injured two security personnel.
