Five men were killed in three shootouts in three cities on Monday night, the police said.
Two each were killed in Bahawalpur and Vehari after alleged robberies and one in Faisalabad. The latter was identified as a proclaimed offender wanted in 14 cases. The identity of the former four could not be established.
In Faisalabad, a man Mansoorabad police said was wanted in 14 cases was killed in what they described as a shootout on Monday night.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Sadiq Ali Dogar said the deceased and another man, riding a motorcycle, were signaled by a Crime Investigation Agency team to stop for a security check near Kashmir Bridge on Canal Road, but they opened fire at them and fled.
He said the CIA team, led by Sub Inspector Ahmad Muneel Shah, and another police party from Mansoorabad station chased the suspects and caught them on Canal Road.
“The suspects were asked to surrender themselves but opened fired at the police team, who fired back in self defence and killed one of them,” the SSP said.
He said the deceased was later identified as Ilyas Shahabuddin, a resident of Chak 57-JB Lehla.
He was wanted in 14 cases of robberies and murder.
The SSP said a police team had been formed to track down and arrest the other man.
Two killed in Bahawalpur
Bahawalpur Saddar police killed two robbery suspects on Monday night.
The deceased who have yet to be identified were chased by the police and killed near Mari Sheikh Shajra area after they had allegedly robbed a man of his motorcycle in Dera Izzat village.
None of the policemen, led by Saddar Station House Officer Rana Qameruz Zaman, were injured in the shootout. The patrolling vehicle of the police was damaged.
An FIR registered against the suspects with Sama Satta police stated that they had robbed Muhammad Naeem of his motorbike. He called the Saddar police on their emergency helpline and alerted them about the incident.
The FIR said the police vehicle chasing the suspects came under attack from them near Mari Sheikh Shajra area. Both suspects were killed as the police returned fire.
Besides the stolen motorbike, the police also found a rifle and a 0.3 bore pistol on the deceased.
The bodies were later sent to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital for an autopsy.
Two killed in Vehari
Vehari police killed two robbery suspects in Sahu Ke.
Police said they chased the suspects, whose identity remains unknown, and killed them in self defence near Chah Aama Wala post in Rahim Shah village. They said the suspects had robbed Nazeer Ahmed of his motorcycle.
Besides the stolen motorbike, the police found a gun, two 0.32 bore pistols and more than 100 bullets on the deceased.
The bodies have been sent to the Vehari district headquarters hospital for an autopsy.
