KARACHI: Pakistan’s fourth seeded squash player Maria Toor Pakay pulled a sensational upset, defeating top seed Latasha Khan in the final of Southwest Open to clinch the title in Tempe, Arizona.

Ranked 52 in the international circuit, Pakay took the first set 11-6. After a tough contest in the second set, Pakay overcame 28th ranked Khan 13-11 to take a 2-0 lead in the summit clash.

Khan tried to bounce back in the match and took the third set 11-4 but Pakay was not in a mood to let the match go off her hands and after taking the lead, she took the fourth set 11-9 to clinch the title of the $10,000 event.

The young Pakistani hails from the conservative district of Bannu in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.
