Role of media: Media can help raise awareness, says GCUF VC

FAISALABAD:

The media can help motivate people to educate themselves, Dr Zakir Hussain, the Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) vice chancellor (VC), said on Saturday. He was talking to Prof Dr AR Khalid of the Mass Communication Department and Prof Shabbir Baloch, the chairman of Islamia University’s Media Studies Department, at his chamber.

He said the media can point out the issues facing people, including human rights, education and democracy. He said GCUF planned to start an FM Radio station and Media Lab at its mass communication department. He said it was also planning to revise its curriculum.

Earlier, the Media Studies Department’s Board of Studies met at the Faiz Ahmad Faiz Seminar Hall. The meeting was attended by Prof AR Khalid, Prof Shabbir Baloch, Punjab University Institute of Communication Studies director Dr Ahsan Akhtar Naz, Lahore College for Women University Department of Communication Studies head Dr Anjum Zia, National College of Arts Multimedia Head Zafar Iqbal and former PTV managing director Muhammad Zubair
