BAHAWALPUR:

“The Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) is the only major political party campaigning for a provincial status for Bahawalpur. We did not join the new provinces commission because it is meant to deceive. We cannot betray the people of Bahawalpur,” PML-N MNA Chaudhry Saood Majeed said on Wednesday.

He was addressing a press conference in Jamaldinwali, Rahim Yar Khan, on the proposed creation of Bahawalpur province and the setting up of a parliamentary commission to give recommendations in this regard.

He said fairness could not be expected from a commission comprising people hostile to the popular demand for the province.

He said that the PML-N had not been consulted on the composition of the commission. He said the Centre was playing games with the people of Bahawalpur by setting up a commission, which had no real representation of the people of Bahawalpur.

He said the PML-N would readily join a commission that was fairly constituted.
