Invisible soldiers of Islam

Is smashinglists.com a professional site which has conducted “credible” ratings?

Letter August 28, 2010

LONDON: This is with reference to Asad Durrani’s article “The invisible soldiers of Islam ” (August 27).

Is smashinglists.com a professional site which has conducted “credible” ratings? Talk about institutionalism gone too far! That's like askmen.com listing out the world’s best armies!

One would hope that apart from our “world ranking” intelligence agency we would have something more to show to the world. Indeed it’s a master agency, it’s been “vanishing” Pakistani citizens for years, shipping them off abroad, torturing them, planting journalists, rigging elections, and getting away with it. I can’t believe that the former head of the ISI, and a Lt general no less, is writing: “If the outfit withstood the onslaught and is again lauded as the best of its kind, it must have done something good.” Lauded? Lauded by a website which makes top 10 lists for everything under the sky?

Things must be really bad in terms of ISI’s PR if they feel they need to point to a top 10 ranking to show its importance. Well, at least we get a dubious ranking to cling on to.

If it is that great, be humble and keep quiet and if it is lacking in certain aspects then I am sure the General sahab can air his views through the proper channels. Writing about it in a newspaper is just weak!
