Dubai Series: ‘Australia satisfied with UAE series’
“We received a thumbs-up from Australia,” PCB official.
KARACHI:
The PCB received a thumbs-up from their Australian counterparts for hosting the series in a ‘befitting manner’ during a period dubbed as the hottest season in the UAE, according to a board official.
While the players had to endure severe heat – temperatures rising to as much as 45 degrees Celsius – a PCB official said the fixtures were a ‘roaring success’. The PCB preferred the venue over Malaysia after weeks of deliberation following the cancelation by Sri Lanka who refused to host the series due to its inaugural Twenty20 league. The organisers tweaked the timings owing to the weather conditions, pushing the matches to a late start, a decision that irked the Federation of International Cricketers’ Association.
However, a PCB official said that the board achieved more than what it expected.
“We received a thumbs-up from Australia,” the official told The Express Tribune from Dubai. “They were happy at the way the series was organised. The PCB is also thankful to them who made the series happen. The crowd attendance throughout the series speaks volumes of the success. We broke the attendance record during the second Twenty20 in Dubai. Hopefully, it will be the same in the final match.
“In fact, we were complimented that we created a new window in the UAE by the local organisers.”
The official added the PCB suffered no financial losses but, in fact, made an unexpected gain.
