Law and order: Four killed in 1,070 robberies in August

573 vehicles, Rs25 million taken away.

Four people were killed and 573 vehicles snatched in 1,070 robberies reported in the city in August.


In a report released to the media on Saturday, the city police stated that Rs25 million was taken away in these incidents, 35 were houses robberies.

The deceased were identified by the police as Shehbaz Ahmed, Muhammad Asghar, Khalid Mehmood and Muhammad Haneef. These were killed in robberies at two jewellery shops.

In other incidents in August, 30 people were injured on resistance to robbers.


As many as 189 motorcycles, 15 cars and 750 cell phones were taken away from citizens.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Senior Superintendent of Police (Operation) Sadiq Dogar said the city police were working on a strategy to curb robberies. He said the Criminal Intelligence Agency had been upgraded and special police squads headed by senior policemen constituted at circle-level to monitor law and order.

370 proclaimed offenders arrested in a day

The City police have arrested 370 proclaimed offenders on Saturday, said spokesman Amir Waheed.

He said 100 court absconders, 23 drug peddlers and 15 people in possession of illicit weapons were also arrested on Saturday.

The spokesman said 3.58 kilos hashish, 1.33 kilos heroin and 60 litres liquor, nine pistols (0.30-bore), three rifles, a revolver, two carbines and 38 cartridges were seized in raids undertaken to arrest these men.
