Gill expressed hope that the bill for increasing minority representation will be tabled in the National Assembly (NA) session commencing on September 3.
Talking to Voice of America (VOA), he said the Government of Pakistan has decided to increase minority seats in the national as well as provincial assemblies and the Federal Cabinet had approved the bill unanimously.
He said the Ministry of Law had submitted the bill in the Federal Cabinet.
Gill said the feeling of insecurity and deprivation that minorities feel will be addressed through increasing their representation in the assemblies, adding that minorities would get more developmental funds through their representatives.

Since this bill is introduced by PPP, then how could it be good? From 1973 constitution to this bill PPP govts have given many rights to women and minorities. Giving more rights, more development funds and seats cannot hurt minorities at all. It is going to make them fell included and not excluded. It is an open secret that PPP and ANP are the parties most minorities love for their secular policies. As far as making the lives of minorities safe from extreme rightwing terrorists PPP or ANP cannot do that as their own top people are not safe from these extremists. Make no mistake about it Salman Taseer did not risk his life for his own benefit but for the rights of minorities. Same was done by Bhatti Shaheed. Every single step in the right direction helps and adds up.
A few more well-fed Hindus, Christians etc will join the club and that would be the end of it. If only these nincompoops would realize that what we require is improved legislation, and not more legislators.
Mr. Prime Minister, Sir. Minorities do not want more seats in the assembly. All they want is not to have their throats slit. Can you deliver this much in our beloved country?
Makes sense to increase their seats since after Ahmedis we are now busy adding Shias and Ismailis to the list of non-muslims.
Wrong idea! There should be no reserved seats in the Assemblies either for women or minorities. Instead we should have separate electorate for them. Women vote for women candidates and men vote for men candidates. It is a novel idea but practical. Minorities vote for their own candidate. But no appointed parliamentarians!
I can say the speed is slow, but the direction is right. Some laws must also be changed to give them equal rights to minorities. What does the great Khan say about that? Or NS? I notice Altaf bhei saying similar things like equal rights.
What's the use of these kind of bills when minorities can't live in Pakistan with dignity & self respect?
and decreased majority representation. doesn't matter minority is already ruling our country.
