Harrowing picnic: Three girls drown in Hub Dam
The girls' family that lives in Orangi Town’s Sector L-12, went for a picnic, swim and to fish at the dam
KARACHI:
Three girls, two of them sisters, drowned at Hub Dam on Saturday. Umm-e-Kulsoom, 16, daughter of Mehboob Alam, and her two cousins, Robina Idrees, 14, and Khadija Idrees, 12, drowned while their family managed to save eight-year-old Jaweria from meeting a similar fate. Around 20 members of the family that lives in Orangi Town’s Sector L-12, went for a picnic, swim and to fish at the dam, despite the fact that the area has not been designated as a picnic point. Villagers helped the family fish out the bodies, which were initially taken to Hamdard Hospital, Gadap, and then later to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The family took them away before medico-legal formalities could be completed. Kulsoom was a student of grade VIII, while Robina and Khadija were seminary students.
