PESHAWAR: The United Employers Union (UEU) on Sunday staged a protest against the suspension of tube-well operators. UEU president Mazhar Hussain led the demonstration protesting the sacking of 35 tube-well operators. Fired employees and their supporters chanted slogans against the Town-1 Supervisor, who they accused of favouritism. “We have been suspended because we refused to pay a bribe,” said a suspended tube well operator, Kamran Khan. “There are many employees who have not shown up at their duties for years, but no one has suspended them. They only fire those who do not have political backing,” he said. The UEU president asked Provincial Minister for Local Government Bashir Ahmad Bilour to take notice of the unjust suspension of the tube well employees and demanded their reinstatement.
