Monsoon: ‘Punjab govt claims washed away by one rain’

Drains are clogged, causing flooding of homes and shops.

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Punjab’s women wing on Tuesday criticised the Punjab government for “looking busy while doing nothing”.

Talat Naqvi, the wing’s president said that the government had set up committees in June to prepare for the rains and declared a month ago that it was well-prepared for the monsoon season. However, this year has been no different, Naqvi said. “Drains are clogged, causing flooding of homes and shops. Standing water on roads, empty plots and parks is a breeding ground for mosquitoes,” she remarked, “and monsoon has only just begun.” She said the Khadim-i-Aala had now constituted another committee to come up with suggestions on how to improve the city’s drainage system.
