Badami Bagh blasts: Two injured die in hospital

Another said to be in critical condition.

Two people who were injured in two explosions at the Badami Bagh fruit and vegetable market on Wednesday night have died of their wounds.


Saleem Khan, 35, from Peshawar and Waqas Ilyas, 30, from Jiya Musa died at Mayo Hospital on Thursday. Husnain, another of the 20 people that were injured in the blast and taken to Mayo Hospital for treatment, is said to be in a serious condition. A funeral ceremony for Ilyas was held at Shahdara.

An FIR had been registered under Sections 324 (attempted murder), 427 (mischief causing damage) of the Pakistan Penal Code as well as sections of the Anti Terrorism Act and the Explosives Act, on the complaint of Ravi Road Station House Officer Arshadullah. He said that ball bearings, nails and other shrapnel collected from the crime scene indicated that the bombs had been manufactured locally.

City Operations SP Multan Khan said that several people had been taken into custody for questioning, but police did not have a solid lead as yet. He said that the explosions appeared to have been set off by a locally made triggering device. He said that the first was a low-intensity explosion was meant to cause panic while the second contained around a kilogram of explosives.
