Going underwater: Crops damaged as canals ruptured

A 15-feet wide breach occurred in Dadu Canal near Fakir Goth in Shikarpur district.

SUKKUR: Piyaro Malik village was submerged in water after Dadu Canal, near Madeji, and Dahar Wah, near Daharki, was ruptured early on Tuesday. A 15-feet wide breach occurred in Dadu Canal near Fakir Goth in Shikarpur district, damaging crops spread over 150 acres of land. Villagers had to plug the breach themselves as irrigation department officials reportedly did not reach the spot, despite being immediately informed of the incident. Meanwhile, a 10-feet wide rupture appeared in Dahar Wah, submerging the nearby Piyaro Malik village as a result. Residents reportedly managed to repair the breach within two hours.
