Regulation: Eight arrested for overpricing

Fines were imposed on three others found selling products on higher prices.

BAHAWALPUR:
Eight shopkeepers were on Thursday imprisoned for four days for overpricing. These were caught and sent to jail on directives of Assistant Commissioner Capt (retd) Khalid Mehmood in raids to review prices in markets across the city. Fines were imposed on three others found selling products on higher prices. Those arrested were identified as Wahid Bakhsh Bhatti, Muhammad Imran, Riaz Ahmad, Muhammad Iqbal Akhtar, Muhammad Akhtar, Muhammad Tariq, Muhammad Wajid and Muhammad Munshi. Three others were each fined Rs3,000 for charging higher prices at their juice, sweets and milk shops on Seraiki Chowk and Farid Gate. Assistant Commissioner Mehmood told The Express Tribune that raids would be carried out in the markers everyday to ensure that businesses were not fleecing customers. He said anyone found violating price lists issued by the government would be penalised under the law.
