Four people shot dead, three bodies found in different parts of the city

Authorities claim to have arrested 45 suspects, including target killers and extortionists.

A man identified as 26-year-old man, Sheikh Kamran, was among four people gunned down in the city on Friday.


The Khawaja Ajmair Nagri police said that Kamran was shot dead in North Karachi. SHO Chaudhry Afzal said that Kamran was on his way somewhere when unidentified men opened fire on him. The body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

In an unrelated incident, 42-year-old Irshad, alias Toti Khan, was gunned down near Qaimkhani graveyard, said the Mochko police. They added that Khan used to work for a factory and was on his way home when he was killed. An unidentified 30-year-old man was killed near the Razzakabad Police Training Centre, said the Shah Latif police. The body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. The body of a eunuch was found inside his house in Qayyumabad, said the Korangi Industrial Area police. They claimed that 48-year-old Samuel alias Channu was strangled to death. They added that Samuel used to live alone in the rented house and was from Punjab.

The body of a 50-year-old man identified as Abdul Jabbar was found in Mohammad Khan Goth, said the Manghopir police. Initial investigation suggested that he was killed over personal enmity. The Pak Colony police found the body of an unidentified man near Lyari River.

Attacked

A suspect identified Khattab Khan Mehsud as was killed while police constable Muhammad Anwar was injured when a police mobile was attacked in Pakhtoonabad, said the Manghopir police. SHO Chaudhry Basheer said that two suspects on a motorcycle attacked the police mobile and injured the constable. The policemen retaliated and opened fire and managed to kill one of the suspects while the other one escaped.

Busted

The authorities claimed that over 45 suspects, including alleged target killers and extortionists, were arrested in different raids around the city.

The Special Investigation Unit chief SP Khurram Waris said that they had managed to arrest two suspects identified as Syed Faiz Zaidi alias Mullah and Imran Khan alias TPO in a raid carried out after a tip-off near Crown Cinema, Mauripur. He added that both men were wanted in several target killings and extortion cases.

The SP did not disclose if the suspects were affiliated with a political party but said that during the interrogation the men had confessed to having killed five people and injuring 16 others, including three women, in Khokhrapar in July last year.

SP Waris said that in 1996, the suspects had also killed an official from the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board at Abul Hassan Isphani Road. The SIU seized a Kalashnikov, a repeater and two pistols from the suspects.

In an unrelated incident, the SIU arrested an alleged extortionist identified as Rana Zulfiqar in a raid near Mehmoodabad. They seized a TT pistol from him. SP Waris said that the suspect had threatened a trader in Korangi because he had refused to pay up.

The Orangi Town police claimed to have arrested four suspects identified as Shahzad alias Sheeda, Ateequr Rehman alias Gullu, Amir Ansari and Imran near Faqir Colony. SHO Nasir Mehmood said that Shahzad was the nephew of the late Lyari gang leader Rehman Dakait. The police seized a hand grenade, two Kalashnikovs and four pistols from the suspects.

Around 17 suspects, involved in car theft, were arrested by the Anti-Car Lifting Cell. According to ACLC chief SP Salam Sheikh the suspects were arrested in raids carried out in different parts of the city, including Gulshan-e-Iqbal. They seized two pistols, five cars, a truck, and 11 motorcycles from the suspects.

Over a dozen suspects were taken into custody during targeted operations in different parts of the city, including Manghopir, Kati Pahari, Sultanabad and Kunwari Colony. Nearly 400 police personnel participated in the operation and had cordoned off the area.

The police claimed that most suspects were drug dealers. A suspect, identified as Ali Hassan, was arrested by the Sir Syed police. They said he that was wanted for killing two people in a robbery in North Karachi.
