‘Khuda ki basti’: Drama shows the dark side of being human

FAISALABAD:

A large audience watched a theatre performance of Khuda ki Basti at Faisalabad Arts Council (FAC) on Sunday.

The play was staged in partnership with Roshin Inter Trainees.

The play was written by Fayyaz Mahi and directed by Sheikh Shakeel Ahmad.

The cast included Abdul Ghafoor Kaudo, Azeem Woki, Naeem Tasawwar, Abdul Wahab, Faisal, Shabbir Akash, Abbas Nooni, Abdul Wahab Meer, Chacha Musa, Amjad Islam Amjad, Gama BA, Manahal Pasha and Asghar Hashmi.

Khalid Ishaq, an elderly spectator, said, “The play showed that while man is a social animal, he can also kill for his interests.” The play is about a fictional basti (settlement) where circumstances change from peaceful to chaotic after jealousies arising day-to-day turn into long-standing enmities.

Salma Naseem, another spectator, said while the drama was about a fictional settlement, it reflected problems about the society. “People can do anything in the pursuit of material wealth,” he said. “The play showed how base sentiments cause crime,” Master Khalid Mehmood, who also watched the play, said.

FAC Programme Officer Khadija Muneer and FAC Assistant Director Asghar Bhatti were present on the occasion.
