RAWALPINDI:

A man who believes his brother was killed by intelligence agencies is seeking to have a murder case registered.

Abdul Shakoor moved the court of an additional district and sessions judge (ADSJ) on Saturday seeking criminal cases against the heads of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Military Intelligence (MI) and officials of Adiala Jail.

His brother, Abdul Saboor, allegedly died in their custody. ADSJ Chaudhry Naveed Iqbal will take up the case on Wednesday.

In his complaint, Shakoor, a resident of Lahore, said that his three brothers Abdul Saboor, Abdul Basit and Abdul Majid were taken away by intelligence agencies on November 25, 2007.

They were charged with attack on ISI’s staff bus in Rawalpindi, suicide attack on General Headquarter’s gate in Rawalpindi and a rocket attack on Pakistan Aeronautical Complex in Kamra, in the northwest of Islamabad at about an hour’s distance by motorway. In April 2010 they were acquitted by a trial court, according to the petition.

But on May 29, 2010, 11 men, including these three, were taken away by intelligence agencies from inside Adiala Jail instead of being released.

Later, a lawyer of the intelligence agencies admitted in the Supreme Court that the men were in their custody and would be tried under army laws, the complainant said.

However on January 30, Saboor’s family was told to reach Peshawar as his condition was not well. In the evening, Saboor’s body was handed over to the family at Lady Reading Hospital.

The complainant says that his brother was unlawfully abducted and tortured to death. Saboor’s widow wrote a letter to the Chief of Army Staff, but nothing happened, he added.

Saddar Berooni’s SHO said that they have already registered an FIR against jail officials for the abduction of 11 men. He added that the murder case, if ordered by the court, will have to be registered in Peshawar as the death happened there.

Why register a case of against jail officials when they were released by these same jail officials but picked up from outside jail premises by the security agencies ? Of course no one can question these deeds since it is all in national interest.
