The government will soon establish an export processing zone in Islamabad in an effort to provide more facilities to investors, bring new technology and knowhow and attract foreign investment.
Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi announced this while talking to a delegation of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) at his residence on Friday. The delegation was led by ICCI’s executive committee member and former president Munawar Mughal.
The deputy PM said various industrial estates and export processing zones were working efficiently which were established during their tenure.
He said he would call a meeting of all stakeholders and business leaders where various core issues would be discussed. He assured the delegation that all the problems of trade and industry would be addressed on a priority basis.
Speaking on the occasion, Munawar Mughal, while appreciating efforts to initiate development projects, pointed out that the country was confronted with an acute energy crisis which was taking a heavy toll on the economy.
He asked the government to reshape its policy of power load-shedding and provide a chance to the industry to flourish as industrial units were performing below par because of unchecked power outages.
