KARACHI:

In its first year of operation, the Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) has achieved the assigned target of collecting Rs25 billion for the 2011-12 financial year, said Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Friday.

He was speaking to the newly appointed SRB chairman, Shakaib Qureshi at the Chief Minister House. Shah directed Qureshi to strengthen the tax recovery system and widen the tax base in Sindh. The SRB chairman briefed the chief minister on the working of the board during the last financial year and the strategy chalked out for the current financial year.

The SRB was set up in January 2011 to collect general sales tax on services. Qureshi said that this year’s target can be achieved if resources are provided.

Take a bow SRB! Still remember the unceasing critcism of various tv anchors upon Sindh's insistence of collecting taxes on its own. Kudos to provincial autonomy!
