Three gorges corp: ‘Power generation projects should be expedited’

ISLAMABAD:

President Asif Ali Zardari has called for expediting electricity generation projects being undertaken in cooperation with the Three Gorges Corporation of China.

He gave directives to this effect during a meeting with a Chinese delegation headed by Senior Vice President China Three Gorges Corporation Wang Shaofeng here at Aiwane Sadr on Wednesday.

Spokesperson for the President Senator Farhatullah Babar said the projects being undertaken with assistance from Three Gorges would add around 2500 megawatts (MW) of electricity into the system, of which approximately 1950MW will be from hydroelectric means and the rest will be generated through wind and solar means.

The President said that Pakistan was also keen for Chinese assistance in conservation of its water resources. He reiterated the government’s assurance of all possible facilitation to the Three Gorges Dam Project Company in the construction of dams and alternate energy projects in the country.
