KARACHI: Ace skeet shooter Khurram Inam overcame Ahmed Sultan in the final series of the Olympics trials to seal his place in next month’s London Games.

The experienced shooter, who also represented Pakistan in the Sydney (2000) and Athens (2004) Olympics, confirmed his place after securing a clear lead of ten birds over his opponents in the trials that were spread over three rounds. The National Rifle Association of Pakistan (NRAP) had organised the trials after getting a single wild-card entry in the skeet event by the world shooting body.

Inam collected a total of 340 points (110, 117 and 113) while Sultan finished with 330 points (111, 108, 111) in the final phase of the trials.

“Inam has won by a clear lead,” said NRAP Secretary Javed Lodhi. “But there’s no international event before the Olympics and he’ll have to train himself.”

Inam will become the first Pakistani athlete to feature in three editions of an individual sport when he takes part in the London Olympics.
