Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed visited the Urban Search and Rescue Centre at the Super Highway.
The centre’s staff has been trained to save human lives in case of any casualty or disaster, and the people are doing a commendable job, he said. Timely search and rescue action can save a lot of lives of people trapped under the rubble of collapsed buildings, he added. “It is a good omen to have the rescue centre established,” Syed said.
During a briefing at the centre, the administrator was informed that the municipal staff of other organisations, including NGOs and universities, was also getting useful training at the centre.
The centre is equipped with search cameras and other searching devices with 16 trained sniffer dogs.
The dogs had come in handy during the rescue operations carried out in collapsed buildings in Liaquatabad, Mithadar and Lyari, Syed was told.
