Sessions court: Police summoned in plea seeking assault case

RAHIM YAR KHAN:

Inayati police have been summoned by a sessions court for June 29 in a petition seeking registration of an assault case against two men.

SHO Noor Muhammad will appear before Additional District and Sessions Judge Anwarul Haq with case record including the complaint filed by Rubina Bibi, a resident of Khairpur Tamewali.

The SHO told the court at the last hearing on Saturday that police were investigating the matter and would register the FIR once evidence was available against Munir Mallan and Rana Imran.

Petitioner had alleged that the police were colluding with the two men and delaying the registration of the case to protect them from prosecution.

Rubina Bibi’s has accused the two men of brutally beating her at their dera on June 9. She said she was pregnant with a baby at the time of the beating, which led her to miscarry the baby.

She said she had gone to the dera in search of her nephew who was kidnapped by the two men. “They accused my nephew of stealing Rs10,000 from their house. They then took him away saying that they will detain him until we return the money,” she said.

She was rescued from the dera by some neighbours who said she was lying unconscious and her clothes were stained with blood when they reached the scene. They took her to Khairpur Tamewali rural health centre (RHC) from Inayati police took her to the police station instead of sending her to Bahawal Victoria Hospital as recommended by the RHC medical officer.

The report prepared by the medical officer and attached with the petition stated that she was referred to BVH so that a gynecologist could examine her. It said she should have received treatment in three to five hours but the police instead took her to the Inayati station. The woman’s family said they later took her to BVH where doctors confirmed that she had had a miscarriage. A BVH medical officer told The Express Tribune that she remained hospitalised for five days.
